Consistency

I have bad news...

Consistency is all you need to improve your strength, wellbeing, or performance.

Exercises from social media, influencers with fit bodies, training programme ads... The noise created by people who want to be louder than everyone else, get more views, or convince more people to buy their products is very often what stands in the way of our first workout, or our first active week or month.

We live in a world where everything has to be pushed to its limits to count. But what we really have to do is take a step back and reflect on what our actual goal is. What do we want to achieve? Not what others are doing, how they look, how much they travel, or how much they earn.

To see real results from exercise, we have to strip away all the noise and become consistent.

Consistency = progress.

In our busy lives, we all have different amounts of time to start new things. Consistency has many dimensions, and learning what it means for you is extremely important.

Do you need to strengthen your core, but have absolutely no time to exercise, never mind go to a gym or attend a training session?

Do three planks every day.

Don't push yourself too hard. Otherwise, you might need to do them every second day. By the end of the first month, you will be able to hold a plank much longer than you could on day one.

IT'S GUARANTEED, and it's simple.

The only thing you need to do is look up the correct plank form, so you don't injure yourself.

If you take 5 minutes a day for 30 days, that's only 2.5 hours you've committed to being in a much better place than you were last month.

You missed a couple of days because you were too tired, or you just forgot?

You definitely HAVE PROGRESSED.

Don't let social media, or a friend whose hobby is being active and who works out five times a week, stop you from progressing.

If you have some free time and would like to start working out, but can't imagine going to the gym every second day, IT'S OKAY.

Go twice a week, on the days you feel stronger. Just make sure you have enough rest time in between. Do a full-body workout for 40 minutes each time.

If you miss one day, it's okay. Just continue.

Let me know how you feel afterwards, but I know one thing for sure:

You progressed.

If you're someone who would like supervision from a personal trainer or instructor who can give you advice, that's fine. Brilliant.

Hire them to give you direction, teach you correct form, and adapt exercises to your needs.

But don't spend your money on secret formulas that supposedly turned thousands of clients into machines.

I can assure you, those thousands of people got motivated for 12 weeks because they invested money.

But did they walk away with any useful knowledge?

Did they build a trustworthy routine?

Did they finish feeling inspired?

Did they develop skills they could use in the future?

I doubt it.

Small steps are irritating, but they are worth so much more.
